Team Lead For: Isle Of Lunae - Capstone Project

Toronto, Canada Area

Isle Of Lunae is a story driven, metroidvania styled, fantasy platformer, that takes inspiration from games like Team Cherry's: Hollow Knight, and Nintendo/Retro Studio's Metroid Prime. This game is being made from scratch using OpenGL, SDL, and various other c++ programming systems.Game Concept: The game takes place on the mystical island of Lunae You are a Prisoner with no memory of your past, driven by curiosity and longing for your former memories. As you progress through the game, you will meet interesting NPCs and learn about the world, as well as your mysterious past. The current state of the project is a basic engine that can load complex models, as well as the materials, textures, and shaders that accompany them. There is also a basic movement system, that can be used to move an object with controls, and a debug camera that can be used to view the scene more accurately.Currently I am working on implementing animations into the game engine, as well as text loading and rendering.p.s. if you're reading this, i'm going to add a video, as well as a link to the github for the project, I just can't at present

Isle Of Lunae - Capstone Project Update 1: January

Toronto, Canada Area

The first major progress update for our capstone, below is a list of the things that have been added/Improved1. Significant changes to how models are loaded, instead of manually parsing object files, I have instead opted to use a third party SDK called Assimp. This is preparation for later, where we will be leading FBX or Collada files to have animations in the game.2.The Game Design document is coming along well, I have added significant detail to the story, as well as the character descriptions. I have also added a new feature to the GDD, a Lore Journal that ties into the players progression. The journal will contain information about the areas that the player visits, as well as the enemies they encounter, players will be able to use the journal to become more immersed in the game world.3. I have started to make simple environmental models for use in our engine, as well as creating rough concept art for the characters.

Isle Of Lunae - Capstone Project Update 2: Febuary

Toronto, Canada Area

After running into a few roadblocks with animations, I decided to get some other stuff done in the meantime, I have been working on implementing ImGui, as well as fixing textures and adding a particle system. So far The textures have been fixed and ImGui has been implemented successfully, there's just some tweaking that needs to be done. To list off what has been completed this month:1. The GDD is as finished as I can make it with the time available, but it still looks good enough to satisfy.2. concept art for the character is finished, it is just a rough sketch that I made but at current we have an artist making a 3D model from it. 3. Fixed a bunch of issues with texture loading and material parsing, changed some Shader files to have them use textures properly.

Isle Of Lunae: Mid-March Update

Toronto, Canada Area

For the mid march update for our capstone the things that were worked on in the February update have been mostly finished. The Imgui Ui implementation is in its final stages, functionally it is fine, however the code behind it still needs to be cleaned and optimized. The use of SDL_Mixer to have audio in the game had been successful, after stepping in and assisting my partner with some issues he was having, we managed to get the audio functional, code needs to be optimized but it is fully functional at present. Currently I am working on optimizing model loading, as our artist has provided us a character model that our current model loading code cant handle, so I will likely be working on that for a little while.

Isle Of Lunae: Post-Showcase Update

This is a video summary for those interested in our capstone who couldn't make the showcase on April 3rd-4th. We still have things that we want to implement, but this is what we had during the showcase with the time frame available. I still need to work on optimizing what I had completed for minimum viable product, namely: the object loader, menu system, texture loader, shader handler, audio system, camera features, light sources, and a few other things. While my partner chad still needs to work on implementing his part of the project: the collision system.More of what i Had in mind for the game can be found in my design document, there was no way that we could complete it all given the time frame, but I wanted to think out most of what the game would be regardless.
