Since 2003 I have served Highlands School in a number of roles. I began my career teaching social studies in fourth and fifth grades. Soon after I accepted the responsibility of coordinating our SAIS reaccreditation process. I have since overseen three successful accreditation reviews. Through this… Show more Since 2003 I have served Highlands School in a number of roles. I began my career teaching social studies in fourth and fifth grades. Soon after I accepted the responsibility of coordinating our SAIS reaccreditation process. I have since overseen three successful accreditation reviews. In 2007 I was promoted to Director of Special Projects, which afforded me the opportunity to lead several campus wide initiatives. The following year I spearheaded our international travel program. Through this program students have visited China, Central America, and Europe. I was promoted to middle school chair in 2011, a role in which I assume the responsibilities normally assigned to a division head. I work to ensure that all aspects of the middle school program are aligned with the school’s mission. We have had a great deal of success increasing enrollment. I credit this success to our willingness to continually improve. During the 2015-16 school year, we piloted a Professional Learning Community. Our efforts improved our practice and brought us closer together. We built on that success during the 2016-17 school year by designing and implementing a comprehensive advisory program, which has transformed multiple aspects of the middle school experience. Currently my academic interests are focused on facilitating an impactful SEL program for the 2017-18 school year, designing and implementing best practices based on emerging developments in cognitive science and expanding the role of blended learning. These areas harbor exciting prospects, particularly for independent schools, but more importantly for education everywhere. Show less

As Director of Special Projects I managed mission-driven projects which enrich students'​ educational experience including but not limited to: international travel, service learning, facilitating construction of outdoor learning spaces, coordinating JUNA and NAIS Challenge 20/20, and organizing community events such as National Geographic's Giant Traveling Maps, the Geography Bee, and special all school community meetings such as Veterans'​ Day. As my organization's Accreditation Coordinator I worked closely with faculty, staff, administration, and the board of directors to engage our community in strategic planning and continuous improvement. And finally as a classroom teacher I developed and implemented the Humanities curriculum, utilizing a flipped model which enabled the students to develop critical thinking skills through collaboration and demonstrate their knowledge and skill in creative and innovative ways. I managed long-term projects centered around professional development for teachers in situ, or in the field. I helped design and implement curricula for teacher trainings all over the United States. I also managed a 75,000 member database for the NGSEF.
