I've had a few roles within Empowering Communities during my time with the company. I started as an application developer and then moved away from application development and began rebuilding the companies infrastructure by making use of VMWare vSphere and Cisco equipment. The applications are developed using agile principles so the platform had to be able to cope with this. This was accomplished by making use of Mesos / Kubernetes clusters and Docker containers where possible. All of the platform VMs are managed by making use of SaltStack configuration tooling to ensure that they have a uniform base configuration to build upon.During my time at Empowering Communities I have taken on a leading role in ensuring the company is proving the applications and services to the correct level of security within the HMG Cloud Security Principles guidelines and the previous system of impact levels. This involves ensuring the company policies are up to date with regards to security, security event management, specific security configuration of the infrastructure and implementing a completely unique gateway between a public facing application zone and protected data storage zone.My duties at Empowering Communities while in my position included -- Implementing new technologies within the company- Keeping the network infrastructure and servers running- Ensure the servers are patched with relevant security updates- Liase with potential and existing suppliers to ensure the smooth running of our infrastructure- Ensure all servers are logging to a centralised logging provider- Monitoring different aspects of the applications and infrastructure- Making recommendations to the CEO regarding the companies IT position- Purchasing new equipment and software required for progressing the applications and services- Ensure all the development work gets carried out in line with company policy- Producing proof of concepts for certain aspects of applications and the platform

Maintained client websites, built new websites, and worked on some large scale web based applications.Work was mainly PHP based using CMS (Drupal 6/7, Joomla 1.5-2.x) for client sites. On larger projects PHP and JS frameworks such as CodeIgniter and Dojo were used in addition to completely bespoke PHP5 applications.

Building a multimedia iPhone application for my dissertation project

During my time at Roberts Pianos I was assigned the following duties:- Design and develop the business website- Design, develop, and implement a web based stock management and control system, which used PHP, MySQL as a back-end- Look after the business IT infrastructure- Manage the dedicated web server which ran the website, and stock management system, along with a few other websites

My tasks while at Netshift included:- Technical support for existing clients- Fault finding the software, hardware, and if possible create a fix- Designing GUI elements for use on kiosks- Some PHP, MySQL programming of a management system- Visiting off site client locations to look into issues with kiosks

While at AWE I was trained to be an electronics engineer. I also undertook some off-site courses to gain some GNVQ qualifications.
