During my career I had the opportunity to contribute to different industries: Defense, Semiconductors and more recently - Digital Health and Medical Devices. However, throughout my career, my main theme has always been leadership in the development of complex multi-disciplinary systems. In most cases, those systems were based around optical systems powered by advanced algorithms. Between 1995-1999 at El-Op (currently part of Elbit) I lead the developed of new IR sensor arrays and an IR vision system for the Israeli combat tank.Between 1999-2011 at Nova Measuring Instruments, I lead the development of Optical CD technology which accurately measures the tiniest dimensions of complex 3D structures on semiconductor wafers, enabling process control. Initially, I had the opportunity to lead the development of this technology from the first concepts into the first 3 generations on the market, including both system and algorithm aspects. I filed over 40 patents and represented the company in conferences and trade shows. After moving through several mid-management positions, I joint the company management in 2006 as VP R&D and later as CTO, leading the company's roadmap and product development, managing a team of 70 scientists and engineers. During this time the company has grown to 350 people with annual sales of over $100M, based mostly on the products that I had the opportunity to lead from concept to market. Between 2011-2020, as CEO of GluSense, we developed a long-term implantable continuous glucose sensor for the benefit of diabetes patients. The sensor technology was a model of bio-convergence, employing solutions coming from both biology and engineering. Encapsulated in the implant we had genetically engineered live cells which expressed a fluorescent biosensor. The fluorescent biosensor responded to glucose and enabled an optical measurement that was implemented by the combined action of the tiny implant and a wearable device. As CEO I gained experience in building and leading a company, fund raising, regulation aspects, and more. Unfortunately, we had to close Glusense due to the long regulatory pathway that deterred potential investors. Recently, I joined Prof. Yuval Garini in a new start up that aims to improve the ability of doctors to give the right drug to each patient. We are focusing on cancer, where most currently available drugs are effective for only a small percentage of the patients and hope to enable a better drug selection decision making process with the help of a new optical modality and machine learning.
