Bob Brown (not to be confused with the ABC newsman or the soul star) started playing piano at age six, having his first steady gig at twelve as a dance-school accompanist.  By 14, he was playing in restaurants and resorts in the Catskills and later on cruise ships (not in the Catskills, of course).    At thirteen he began writing the first of what has become scores of compositions and arrangements for a variety of instruments and ensembles.    Drafted during the Viet Nam war, he wound up in the 371st Army band at Ft. Leavenworth (outside the prison facility!) and then spent most of his “tour” at the West Point band as pianist/arranger. He arranged the Concerto In G by Ravel for band and performed it with the USMA Band (and is included in the "Sites and Sounds" video).    Dr. Brown’s formal training was at SUNY Fredonia (B.S.), Indiana University (M.M.) and Columbia (Ed. D.), with assorted clinics and seminars at Chautauqua, University of Las Vegas and University of Illinois.    He has been at Lakeland for 28 years, 24 of them as Music Department Chair.  He has also written for and been a featured performer with all four of Lakeland’s civic ensembles (also including the Band, Orchestra and Jazz Orchestra).  “Whatsoever Things are True” is the third piece of his to be performed by the Civic Chorus.------------------------------------------------
