As Chief Architect in High-Performance Computing and Artificial Intelligence at CTG Federal, my role is to help the company grow into emerging HPC and AI markets. I work with the entire CTG Federal team to blend my background in building, operating and maintaining large scale supercomputing environments with CTG Federal's highly regarded experience in enterprise computing systems and software to build hardened infrastructure to meet today's fast evolving requirement around HPC and AI.I have joined CTG Federal after more than 35 years at NASA, where I was most recently the CTO and previously Chief Architect/Supercomputing Systems Lead in the NAS Division. Over that time I developed and operated numerous supercomputing systems, mass storage systems and high-speed networks including Columbia (#2 top500) and Pleiades (#3 top500), which were among the world's most powerful computers at the time of their launch. The NAS (www.nas.nssa.gov) is a highly visible and well known program having broad national impact representing the United States commitment and leadership to Human Spaceflight, Planetary Science, Astro Physics, Earth Science, Heliophysics, Aeronautics, and the Search for Life elsewhere.I am honored and proud to have been a part of the "NAS" from nearly the beginning and to have been able to support these science and engineering efforts broadly with computing resources as well as to have been involved in many focussed projects where we developed capabilities taylored to specific use case needs. Our success came from seizing the opportunity to pull together diverse and dedicated teams of brilliant, highly motivated people who spanned industry, academia, and government. They were the best of us.Our approach was to run these systems over an extended service life, making numerous upgrades to enhance and extend their operational lifetime. We built these systems in an environment with scarce and often uncertain capitalization funds to maximize NASA's ROI - you can find historical full cost data docmented here: https://hec.nasa.gov/user/policies/sbus.html.For example, Pleiades was expanded and upgraded over 26 times and maintained a Top 20 ranking in the Top500 longer than any other system (9 years) and even received recognition of this from the Top500 committee. During that time we lived with every decision in NASA's largest and most demanding operational environment - 24x7x365.

He also works with division, project, and program management teams to plan future technologies and make decisions for the overarching technology infrastructure that closely align with NASA’s HPC capabilities for supporting critical programs and missions.Prior to his current role, Ciotti was Chief Architect/Supercomputing Systems Lead in the NAS Division. Throughout his years in the division, he led, developed, and implemented a broad range of supercomputing system installations, mass storage systems, and high-speed networks. Ciotti has been instrumental in the acquisition, development, and operational environments of these systems, including the Pleiades and Columbia supercomputers, ranked among the world’s most powerful computers at time of installation.During his 32-year government career, Ciotti has held a variety of roles, including high speed processing lead, technical lead in the agency’s Consolidated Supercomputing Management Office, acting branch chief, and supercomputing systems lead.Prior to joining the NAS Division, Ciotti worked at Control Data developing software for an airborne radar system and real-time visualization used for flight training and range command and control. He initially worked onsite at Ames supporting and debugging the first port of UNIX to the ETA10 supercomputer, where NAS was central to pioneering efforts requiring all systems to support UNIX and BSD networking.Ciotti received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Indiana University, with a focus on both Operating Systems and Artificial Intelligence.
