My career has covered an interesting spectrum. At one end, I have been the single person team, negotiating, planning, researching, developing, testing, deploying and supporting systems with international partners. At the other, I have lead teams of people responsible for several projects, all with conflicting requirements, schedules and deployed all over the world. I have even had the pleasure of mentoring cadres of engineers and scientists, applauding enthusiastically as they rocket to success!This is where I am currently spending most of my energy. I want to show people who are trying to come up in the industry that there isn't a magic spell. They, too, can have long-term commitment and small-scale focus, holding multi-year project plans in their heads while also puzzling out "what are our micro-milestones for this afternoon?"As a team leader, I strive to be near-zero maintenance. My normal interactions with my management go something like: "There was a problem. I have already taken care of it. I just wanted to let you know in case your boss asks if we should worry about that. You can tell them that the problem is already solved but thanks anyway!"
