Left in December 2004, shortly before the company's demise.Prior to that in reverse chronological order I was at:Axiom Design and Print, Performance Print and Perrymill Press-all of Bromsgrove, Morcat of Acocks Green, Birmingham Printers [1982] Ltd of Camp Hill, Gibbons Barford of Wolverhampton and Deansons of Aldridge. Sad to say that only one of the above is still trading and that under a slightly different name and location.

Head hunted from Perrymill Press in rural Wildmoor. The Manager of the Performance Print Division of the Axiom Group. Responsible for publicising the name and services of the Company. Merged with Axiom initially, then Axiom itself merged to create Trilogy , along with C3 Design of Studley and Techniform Business Forms of Sutton Coldfield.

Wildmoor, Bromsgrove

Acted as Works Manager in the MD's absence. Implimented stock control system which enabled up to 50,000 surplus sheets to be used, freeing up capital and floor space. First external sales job which was so successful they gave me a company car to cut down on commission. Approved key holder. When locking up the works one night I rescued a woman who had just been burgled. The neighbours wouldn't help her and she was too scared to re-enter the house alone. I waited with her until her parents arrived.

Acocks Green

Made redundant when Morcat closed its doors. Generated Elements was the scanning house in the group. Imagery Reprographics was the pre press company. Morcat was the print and finishing company. Only Morcat never rose from the ashes. It's equipment was hired for a time by another local printer, then auctioned off.

Headhunted by Morcat. Best Place I ever worked for. Torn leaving there so soon. I was a Member of The Birmingham Typographical Society whilst there.

Worked in manual estimating system including magazine breakdowns. All work was done via cut and paste artwork on boards, using films to make plates. Dabbled in sales for the first time as I got bored waiting for enquiries to come in. Won a £50,000 order from the then Bristol Polytecnic from under the noses of the Gibbons Bristol Office.The Bristol crew never pitched for it as they said it always goes to the same printer each year. Ho ho! Returned to Print after two years at College racking up a few O and A levels and Grade Three Piano.

Aldridge

Estimator, Production Control Clerk.Producing Manual Estimates, Checking works instructions. Allocating stock items or raising purchase orders both for stock and out work elements of jobs.Updating manual progress board and lists. No computers only a few calculators, which were considered high tec. All letters, orders and dockets set to the typing pool for processing. Letterpress Room had ten presses: three Thomson Auto Platens, One Wharfdale hand fed Medium, One Kelly, medium, One Titan,medium, One Glockner, medium, Two Centurions, [Double Crown] and One Kovo [Rotary Letterpress, medium]
