Reporting to the Director Strategic Services, this role provides a range of safety support and advice services to the constituent Directorates of the Asset Management Services Group.

Working with the Asset Director and Senior Team, as Head of HSEA discipline, this role is to provide leadership and direction on health, safety and environmental matters.Additionally, I lead the HSEA Specialist team which is embedded in the 6 National Signalling & Power Renewal Programme delivery teams.Other responsibilities are;Through the HSEA specialist support, provide leadership on HSEA matters for the Signalling and Power Engineering teams.Work with contractor & supplier senior teams and safety teams, to improve safety standards, culture and performance across the programme delivery areas.Act as a single contact point for the project portfolio with the ORR, Environment Agency and other regulatory organisations.Work with the National Route teams to ensure that ‘whole life' safety for the asset' is a consideration when project remits are being prepared.Since July 2010 I have additionally performed a similar role for Director B&C Asset Management team.

Managed a project team responsible for delivering a portfolio of projects safely to time, cost and quality.Ensured that the company's CDM duties were discharged for my portfolio of projects.In addition to these Project Management activities I managed the E&P logistics depot and cable laying train.

Working in the Electrification & Plant project delivery team, responsible for provision of safety advice and leadership necessary for the programme of construction.This also required monitoring contractor compliance with Network Rail project delivery safety requirements and compliance with their individual company safety processes.

As part of the programme's area management team, provided HSQE support & developed, implemented and maintained the area specific components of the Programme’s HSQE Management System.

Major assignments included:Development of the London Underground Ltd Infrastructure Maintainer Safety Cases required under the Railway Safety Case Regs.National Safety Manager for the Railtrack Train Protection and Warning System Project. A 3 year, £500m project to install c14000 signalling sub-system fitments at safety critical locations network-wide.Acted as Chair for a series of Incident Inquiries along with managing an incident causal & trend analysis investigation for London Underground Track Renewal projects.Development of emergency response and evacuation procedures for Heathrow Express and training new operational staff in the procedures.Development and implementation of an ISO 9001 compliant quality management system for London Underground’s Engineering Train Operations.

Provided health, safety and environmental management advice on a consultancy basis to SME clients over a large geographical area.These clients were typically; Retail premises, Warehouse operators, Civil Engineering and building contractors, Exhibition Centres, Freight Forwarders, Oil Companies andNational Bus Operators.

Reporting to Director Safety – BRB; Developed Group Level Safety Policy and Strategy, Directed and performed Special Investigations commissioned by The Chairman, Board Members and Group Managing Directors and from trend analysis of Safety Performance Reports, Investigation findings and Audit results, determined areas within subsidiary businesses which required special attention and/or assistance from HQ level

Reporting to the BRB Head of Safety Audit; Successfully introduced the use of International Safety Rating System across the company. This became the main audit tool used to aid development of Safety Management Systems across BRB and its subsidiaries. Established and managed a discrete organisation, based away from Group Headquarters, to provide an independent audit service to the Board and subsidiaries.
