After guiding Form4 Architecture though its first 21 years, Bob retired from day to day assignments and his CEO position September 2020. Although no longer an employee, he accepted a new position as Consulting Principal to Form4. In this position his focus will be to capitalize on his passion for bringing projects through Planning Entitlements. Current projects are located in mid-Peninsula cities such as Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Redwood City, and TOD projects around hubs such as Millbrae BART.As Bob is happy to tell anyone who will listen, there is no better field than architecture. Career success requires all of your skill, integrity and cunning. Your achievements are graphically tangible. You get to experience people using the space you and your team created; in ways you anticipated or hoped for, and in ways that evolve. This is perfect, because while we often think we are designing to fulfill a specific program, in reality all we can hope to do is create a backdrop for the way people live. You hope you think of everything… and that once in a while folks might be surprised by some juxtaposition of space, or ease of function, or social opportunity, that creates unexpected delight.In the 47 years leading to retirement from day to day activities, Bob has designed for Apple Computer (here and in Ireland), 1.6 million square feet (106 acre campus) for VMware, Netflix, Facebook, Gateway at Millbrae BART, the first mixed use office/retail and residential building on Menlo Park under their new Downtown Plan, the mixed use 500 University in downtown Palo Alto, and others. In Stanford Research Park, Bob is responsible for over 2,300,000 sf of building.For Bob, even more meaningful than the number of projects completed were the people he got to know: teammates, clients, consultants, specialists, city staff, brokers, neighbors and contractors. Many now are valued personal friends. It is hard to image anything better than that!
