In the 21 1/2 years that I was a corrections officer. Care, custody , and control was the main focus . Early in my career I was assigned to the emergency response unit , which later became the emergency service unit. Rikers island being a city in a city. Our unit was there to help the staff in any emergency. In the late 90s I was fortunate to be selected to go through NYPD's emergency service school that brought my training skills and knowledge up 10 fold. ( auto extrication, machinery rescue, trench and structural rescue, tactics, rope rescue, Emt, haz-mat tech, executive protection, high security escorts and so much more. Lessons that I brought back to my department and passed on.Unfortunately a lot of these lessons where put to the test in 2000. In the years to come I assisted in ropes and other classes with NYPD ESU and was given the chance to work for Roco Rescue.
