I didn't want to propose to my girlfriend (now wife) with a boring old diamond, and so in my spare time I invented Mem-Gems technology! Mem-Gems™ are specially crafted laboratory-grown sapphires that can project a customized image using laser illumination.

Magnetic tweezers have the ability to resolve single molecule dynamics, such as observing a single helicase molecule unzipping DNA in real-time. In the Saleh Lab, I developed high-speed magnetic tweezer instrumentation and Allan Variance data analysis techniques to push the limits of what is possible with magnetic tweezers.

At Micronit, I performed a wide range of activities for R&D projects and in support of the Production Department in the mass-production of microfluidics.My primary responsibility was improving processes related to silicon and glass wafer production. For example, I designed, built, and trained operators to use a machine in the Micronit cleanroom which is now used for semi-automated manufacturing of Silicon Pore Optics for the European Space Agency International X-ray Observatory. I worked with other optics specialists from around Europe as part of an international consortium working to improve the performance of IXO, see link for details: http://dx.doi.org/10.1117/12.858166Another part of my job was designing production tools and developing product prototypes for customers using Solidworks and other design software. I also developed new partnerships with other European companies in order to facilitate the manufacture of specialized parts.

Successfully completed MSc in Nanotechnology with the Optical Sciences Group at the University of Twente. Thesis project titled: "Single laser STED."

At UVic, I used my experience with PDMS and SU-8 based microfabrication to help graduate students with MEMS and microfluidics fabrication for their thesis projects.

Gained experience with flow-cytometers, lasers and electronics design.
