General Manager

Fort Mcmurray, Alberta

As General Manager with ClearStream Contracting the position requires me to wear many hats from Business Development to Operations management, HR Generalist to Safety Specialist all the while maintaining a solid bottom line and continued opportunity for growth. Working in the Oil Sands Region, there are many challenges including but not limited to availability of qualified staff and working within budgets while still showing a profit. Our current team of employees is in excess of 375 and steadily growing. My main focus is to expand ClearStream Contractings customer base to include offering qualified workforce to Construction companies, contractors and Oil Sands sites covering everything from Heavy Equipment Operators to Dredge Operators, Labourers to Wash Bay Attendants. The business model I have created has shown new clients why it is advantageous to use ClearStream Contractings workforce to fulfill their manpower needs.Working within tight margins has become a way of doing business in the region and that has become one of my top achievements. Proudly, working with my team we have achieved an excellent safety rating; we focus on the main reasons of why we work safe.Mentoring and professional development is a major focus for me. I feel it is important to have people prepared for succession. I have created a workable job description for all of my supervision that I hold them to, if I see that they are challenged I work with them to get past the hurdles. Holding the staff members accountable to this expectation also shows any possible weaknesses and possibly people that are not suitable for the position. For those individuals I put together a performance improvement plan and assist them in either stepping up to the task or working with them to find a role they are more suited for.

Business Development & Qa/Qc Manager

Alberta Oil Sands Region

In this new role I will be ensuring our clients receive the services they requested at the quality level they expect. If it is found we are not meeting expectations I will work with the client and Clean Harbors operations management to remedy the situation and institute changes that will insure it will not happen again. Where I will be working so closely with the clients I will also be looking into new opportunities where Clean Harbors can offer our services and expertise. If such a need arises I will be partnering with our sales team to present to the client.

Sep 2013 - Feb 2014

Insite Operations Manager

Fort Mackay Alberta

The client I currently work directly with is one of the largest in the oil sands region. My current work force is in excess of 100 staff members and growing. Clean Harbors offers many different services all of which assist a plant like this to operate safely, efficiently while keeping a close eye on the spend. At the site I manage in particular we are involved in providing services from the mining operation right to the point where the finished product heads down the pipeline.I am responsible for overseeing this multimillion dollar contract and to make sure for Clean Harbors that we maintain a healthy bottom line while meeting and most time exceeding the daily needs of the customer.Safety is our #1 priority. Ensuring our staff operates safely everyday and enjoys the opportunity to spend quality time with their families is at the top of every decision being made for the direction of our team.

Nov 2010 - Sep 2013

Decoking & Pigging Crew Manager

Red Deer Ab

My responsibilities included managing a crew of 6 or more operators working on a 24hr operating project. Also, it was required to work directly with the Client to ensure we understand the issues at hand and to provide them with a timeline of resolution. The work we performed as a team directly impacted the output of a Upgrading Plant so it was pivotal that we make sure the job was performed safely, correctly, and on time.Mobilization of equipment and general maintenance was another facet of what I had to ensure ran like clock work. When Plants were shutdown due to unplanned complications I needed to rally the crew together and get on the road while making sure we have all the tools necessary and ready to perform our tasks efficiently.

Oct 2007 - Nov 2010

Driver/ Employee Relations Manager

Dartmouth Nova Scotia

My primary responsibility was to work with the staff members to resolve issues and to lower the turnover rate. Reporting to the Operations Manager, he and I worked together on policies and procedures that would affect the employee. One of the points that was quickly recognized was that employees just want to be listened to. With that quickly being ascertained I put together a program which involved the employees providing input on the way things are done at the operations level. The turnover rate dropped sharply to a level never experienced by the company before. After a short period of time I became integrated into the on-boarding of new employees as well as providing upgrading to active employees.I was invited to participate in the safety department and quickly became involved in the daily safety management. Site inspections and job audits were a major part of the role in the field. This provided the opportunity to intervene with employees and recognize there achievements or short comings and how we can work together to make their job and workplace better
