The Aviation Weather Center is one of nine national centers within the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). As part of the National Weather Service, the AWC issues global and domestic aviation forecasts as well as “watches and warnings” for severe aviation weather 24/7/365. Responsible for daily operations, annual operating plan and budget execution, strategic planning, as well as the welfare of 72 federal and cooperative university employees. Built (or repaired) strong and positive partnerships with other federal stakeholders, industry, academia, and international partners. In times of extremely tough federal budgets, established the Aviation Weather Testbed to accelerate the aviation weather R2O (and O2R) processes, increased the center FTE count, and tripled the reimbursable funding into the AWC. Director of the ICAO Washington World Area Forecast Center, one of only two such international aviation weather centers in the world. Member of the U.S. Senior Executive Service since 2008.
