GTL Biofuel Inc. is an MIT biotech spinout. It produces and sells industrial microorganisms that can convert a wide variety of low energy density hydrocarbons and biomass into petroleum (crude oil) substitute, animal feed and human food. The technology behind it is Bio-GTL technology which is similar to conventional GTL process. The key difference is Bio-GTL is a biological process that doesn’t rely on catalysts under high pressure and high temperature conditions.GTL Biofuel now seeks partnerships with interested feedstock producers and processing companies. Its long-term business model is to provide microorganisms to partner companies in the downstream processing and marketing businesses.
