Following semi-retirement 8 years ago I find I still have a passion for my game, hence this post. My purpose here is not to solicit work in the design field, rather to gauge interest in a differing role. I feel the construction industry has changed in many ways and the measures and balances previously employed to protect the interests of the client may have also changed. Changes over the years have included:-• changes in the method of project delivery, • changes within the approving plumbing authorities and designers roles and the scaling back of their inspection roles,• greater reliance by approving authorities on self-certification of construction by the trades,• the use of low cost engineering centres, often offshore or interstate,• fast tracking of projects and • mixed relationships between client/builder/ consultants.Whilst each of these might be expected to bring benefits to the industry in general, they might also be considered to have a detrimental effect on projects. I have heard views by project managers and industry members that a number of these issues may have at times adversely affected the quality of the works, compliance with project or legislative requirements and/ or best for project considerations.I wonder if you agree with the views above and if so whether you consider there is role with your organisation to provide or enhance a service overviewing and critiquing submitted designs at critical points in the documentation program, reviewing the construction installations and in generally representing the clients’ interests. If you do feel this is a role you might support, I consider I am uniquely positioned within my field to offer an independent overview of Hydraulic services design and/or construction matters backed by 50+ years of Hydraulic design consulting and contracting experiences. These experiences permit me to anticipate and identify concerns in the best interests of the Project, the facility managers and the owners.
