About Bob Phillips
Late blooming Baby Boomer, singer-songwriter, poet, short story writer, naturalist, spiritual seeker, social critic, philosopher, recovering-alcoholic who through the grace of God and the help and compassion of other recovering alcoholics is sober today (seven years and counting.) I love to hike and backpack in the wilderness; I love Montana and the northern Rockies, I love southern Utah and the Colorado Plateau.I started my "career" in newspaper journalism but rejected that "career" as folly after 25 years of seeing overt censorship, manipulation, news suppression, cowardice, mediocrity, and entrenched "professional" conformity with no regard for truth, social justice, civil liberties, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights, or even basic human compassion. As bad as some may say the world of American "journalism" has become, they are optimists. It is far, far worse than that.So now I no longer concern myself with "career." I write songs and sing them and record them. I hope to leave some kind of musical legacy, however obscure, that means something, and songs that move people. I discovered my musical potential in my late 40s and early 50s, and it has been a surprising and wonderful discovery. The world of music and musicians is a very interesting place.I love intellectual conversations, living in the now, respecting and loving the Earth, and appreciating the fact that death will take all of us all too soon. Better live with gratitude and joy right now, right here, while we still have a chance. It is our choice.
