About Robert Rosner
My background is in theoretical physics and applied mathematics, especially in areas related to fluid dynamics, plasma physics, and more generally in computational physics and high-performance computing. Most of my professional life has been spent in academia; but I have also been a senior manager for a major Department of Energy national laboratory (Argonne National Laboratory), serving as its chief scientist, associate lab director and director. I am now back at the University of Chicago, working on computational fluid dynamics problems. I co-founded the Energy Policy Institute at the University, an activity that also connects with my past work with the American Academy of Arts & Sciences' Global Nuclear Future project and with the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.Specialties: theoretical astrophysics; fluid dynamics; plasma physics; applied mathematics (esp. related to numerical solutions of PDEs); computational physics; high-performance computing; management of large R&D facilities; energy-related public policy.

I co-founded EPIC with Prof. Robert Topel, and as of July 1, 2014, we've stepped down, now that Prof. Michael Greenstone has agreed to lead EPIC at the Univ. of Chicago. I am however still actively involved with EPIC, which is turning out to be an exciting and interesting venue for confronting energy policies with the realities of economics and technology.
