Bob served as a Platoon Leader at Officer Candidate School before attending USMC Amphibious Warfare School (AWS), Quantico Va. While at AWS, Bob was introduced to the theories of USAF Colonel John Boyd and has since remained an active advocate of the “Boyd Doctrine.”After AWS, Bob reported into 1st Marines and served as a Regimental S4, and then Commanding Officer of Kilo Company and Weapons Company, 3rd Bn, 1st Marines. Bob then was assigned as the Operations Officer for the USMC Western Recruiting Region, at MCRD San Diego.As the Commanding Officer of Marine Corps Security Force Keflavik, Iceland, Bob participated in the security planning and operations for the Reagan and Gorbachev Reykjavik Summit. After USMC Command and Staff College, his assignments took him to 1st BN, 6th Marines (1/6) as the Operations and then Executive Officer. While with 1/6, Bob participated in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Bob was then assigned as a Joint Forces Strategic Planner and Joint Operations and Planning System (JOPES) Officer at USTRANSCOM conducting major regional contingency planning, analysis, and operations. Bob would then move to the 2nd MEF, G-5, Force Deployment Officer where he also participate in JTF-160 Refugee Operations, Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay.
