Working directly for the Chief Technology Officer and alongside other internal Innovation teams, Bob's role as Technology Connector and Innovation leader was to gather the needs of our respective of businesses, then engage select innovation ecosystems outside our company, identify relevant emerging technology and facilitate meaningful technology transfer back into our organization. These ecosystems included academic, governmental, corporate, VCs, and Startups. Additionally Bob oversaw the Extreme Innovation Board, Internal Technology Council and created numerous dashboards and systems for capturing and tracking activity in innovation areas of the businesses

As Vice President of Breakthrough Innovation for Stanley Black & Decker’s Innovation Accelerator team, my focus was fostering collaboration between internal and external resources to improve and advance SBD’s global innovation processes and impact. This was a very rewarding but challenging role. I reported team progress quarterly to the BU Innovation Board and similarly to the CEO and his staff on activity and progress across 10 global innovation teams. If that wasn’t cool enough, I was also tapped to design the first SBD employee makerspace in Baltimore. I lead the design, creation, operation and staffing of this fun and powerful recruiting and engagement tool.

This amazingly rewarding role had responsibility overseeing all Industrial Design activity for Global Tools. These activities included the classic aesthetic and ergonomic evolution of current product ranges but also compelling re-branding proposals and new VDL challenges on a global scale. The product categories include power tools, outdoor products, housewares and home cleaning products. The brands include DEWALT, Black +Decker, Bostitch, Porter Cable, MAC Tools and Stanley Fat max.I am privileged to have worked with some of the best and brightest while overseeing nearly 80 designers in 6 studios spread across 4 countries. All this while still learning, growing and pushing the boundaries of some of the most powerful brands in the industry.

This career-expanding role hosted some of my most memorable experiences and challenges. I was privileged to be tapped as SBD's first vertically integrated designer lead over Brand marketing, Packaging, Graphics, PR, Industrial Design and 3D surfacing for the DEWALT and professional brands, North America. Our diverse and wildly talented team initiated countless firsts including a Mobile Lunch Truck PR campaign, DEWALT radio station, Lithium Ion XR launch and the patented, industry disrupting Flexvolt products and branding. This was our first step towards creating what is now our Global Customer Experience organization.

While still contributing directly to new product concepts, this role was both rewarding and invigorating for me. This period was a brute-force reclaiming of market leadership in our key categories as well as strengthening of our design teams and tactics. The team worked hard to push the boundaries and globally formalize many of the design processes, advanced concepts and protocols we use to this day. I will forever be proud to have played a role in this trying but pivotal time in our design function's evolution.
