I have 30+ years of experience in software design and implementation. Burlington, Ma
Implemented a UI for Expressor's data integration software that allowed business users to diagram the Extract, Transform, Load operations to perform on a database. The first implementation was in C++. I later re-implemented it in C# and WPF.I also re-implemented the data flow analyzer that modeled how the database data would move through the user's diagram.
Concord, Ma
Wrote classes in Java for accessing web services using SOAP, or for scraping HTML pages, to gather information from airlines about routes and prices. This data was then fed into Kayak's metasearch engine.
Joined as the second engineer in a new start-up company. Designed and implemented critical components in the company's two Windows desktop applications, which use scanning, character recognition, and speech to allow blind and dyslexic people to read printed material. Developed back-end modules in C++, MFC, and ATL to provide necessary services to the Visual Basic GUI developed by others.
In 2005, Cambium Learning acquired Kurzweil Educational Systems. Please see Kurzweil Educational Systems, below, for a description of my work.
Developed Microsoft Windows based desktop applications for video conferencing, initially for Windows 3.1, later for Windows 95. On the Windows 95 project, I was the primary design engineer. I introduced object oriented programming to the group, designed and implemented a framework for the application that allowed new modules to be plugged in dynamically, adding functionality as desired. Used C++, MFC, and OLE (before MFC provided support for it).
Software development for real-time embedded systems using 68000 assembly language. Development environment was Unix. Target systems were patient monitoring systems for intensive care units in hospitals.
