I worked in the satellite telecommunications industry for over 38 years. I started with 8 years at COMSAT where my initial task as a result of coming from modem manufacturor CODEX Corp.was to see if digital terrestrial modems could transmit over a satellite and successfully recover the data. While at COMSAT, I became a Sr. Project Manager which included managing the building the $86 million Roaring Creek E/S complex.I worked 2 years for the Northwest Alaska Pipeline company as Director of Telecommunications Design. The pipeline was to transport natural gas from the North Slope of Alaska. The Alaskan portion of the overall budget was $32 billion whereas my departmental portion was $235 million.I also worked for GTE Spacenet as Manager of Network Operations for 8 years which included all ground operations. After GTE Spacenet I went to work for Intelsat and became the Sr. Manager of Monitoring Systems Development Engineering Department where we developed a new post launch test and monitoring systems plus a Transmitter Locator System that could identify the source of an unwanted transmit carrier within 10km. In 2002 I took retirement which allowed me to concentrate on the newly organized Satellite Users Interference Reduction Group (SUIRG) of international satellite companies that utilized the industry's combined expertise to minimize the number of satellite interference incidents, While at Intelsat I was appointed the first Chairmen of the group which was also the first attempt to bring organization to the group. In 2002, the SUIRG members decided, if they desired to effect the industry, they needed to incorporate and I was elected as the founding President and CEO of the organization until my second retirement in 2012. SUIRG is the international voice of the industry regarding satellite interference mitigation. SUIRG is a non-profit membership organization with 35 members from 20 difference countries. Specialties: Managing people and running organizations

SUIRG is moving forward with different management which provides me the opportunity to retire again after 5 decades working in the satellite engineering industry
The Satellite Users Interference Reduction Group is a global industry organization dedicated to combating the increasing and costly problem of satellite radio frequency interference (RFI). Comprised of representatives from both private industry and the public sector, SUIRG shares and disseminates RFI information and remedies, works with industry to define equipment standards and proficiency training, and actively pursues programs to reduce or mitigate satellite interference.Received the Society of Satellite Professional International (SSPI) organization award for Creative Use of Technology for developing the concept of embedding uplink location data in uplink carrier metadata to identify the source of an interfering uplink carrier. Technology is embraced by the satellite uplink community to the point that no uplinks were authorized from the 2015 Olympics unless the carriers incorporated Carrier Uplink Identification.SUIRG's extensive and qualified industry experience is put to best advantage influencing suppliers, improving the quality of satellite communications equipment and services, and identifying and providing technical resources to its members.
While at Intelsat I managed the Monitoring Systems Development engineering department where I directed the design and development of the Communications System Monitor systems which monitors daily each of >10,000 communications carriers for errors in frequency, power or bandwidth. In addition directed the design of a Transmitter Locater System design which could identify the geolocation of an up link carrier within 10km which was useful for locating unwanted interfering carriers,
While at GTE I was the Manager of Ground Segment Operations which included a 11 site network of earth stations supporting the Sprint Satellite Network with locations from New Jersey to Hawaii.
I was hired away from CODEX Corporation where I worked as a terrestrial modem designer by COMSAT to work in their Engineering department to perform conceptual testing of terrestrial digital modem operation over analoge satellites. The testing outcome was very positive which lead to the widespread use of digital satellite services.
