Bob was Head of Information Architecture for Refinitiv. He worked in the information industry for 38 years, specialising in information for financial markets and investment management. After 12 years as a programmer, software designer and latterly architect working on dealing room information systems he took the opportunity to join Reuters as a designer on their real time network, IDN. During the following years, Bob moved through a series of architect positions, including corporate and enterprise architecture planning and governance, business unit specific systems architecture, and cross-product workflows and data standards. In 2005, he was asked to form an enterprise data architecture function within the Chief Architects Office. This acted as a lightning rod for many issues affecting information quality and precision arising from product operations organised in silos, and the consequent problems of inefficiency, duplication and lack of agility in related content operations. After the acquisition of Reuters by Thomson Corp. in 2008, Bob helped define and shape ‘Content Marketplace’, a change initiative designed to maximise the value of Thomson Reuter’s information assets through application of Information Architecture standards, the federated organisation of information and the establishment of a standard information supply-chain. Within Content Marketplace Group, Bob ran the Information Architecture function for three years. In 2011 he formed the Corporate Technology Information Strategy team to help focus cross-company efforts on direction, target information architecture and core policy formation. Most recently this included leading an exploration of the potential for use of Linked Data and Open Data in and by Thomson Reuters, culminating in March 2014 with the company joining the Open Data Institute as a Partner.In 2018, he joined Refinitiv, formerly the Financial & Risk business of Thomson Reuters, as head of the enterprise Information Architecture team. He retired in October 2020.
