For those who do not know, OS X still utilizes the very same development environment (with enhancements, of course) we used starting in 1989.Proponent was an enterprise software, application development environment targeted for use by "power users" or the actual business or organizational sponsors of an application. It largely obviated the need for DBA's and corporate developers. It was essentially "cloud-based", however where the cloud was internal to the organization rather than commercial as today.Proponent was adopted by customers where absolute advantage in software development was their most important imperative - i.e. Wall Street Capital Markets banks and western nation defense intelligence agencies.NeXT Computer was not a market success, and this bounded the Proponent opportunity as an enterprise product. The then Windows 3, 95 & even NT, were not powerful enough as platforms to underly a port of Proponent, and by the time Apple released OS X, Apple had turned its solid focus to the consumer market and not the enterprise market.Proponent largely remains known only to the few early adopters in the advanced computing world of the early 1990's. Many of its concepts still remain ahead of comparable products that are in use 20 years later. Show less

The environment also support a terrific user experience including an early notion of a visual, interrupt-driven interface. Oddly, HP discontinued the stellar HP-260 in its infancy which had the effect of ending the Matrix opportunity.I learned from this experience to strive for a balanced life for myself and my future teams.
