I worked as a litigation and trial paralegal and had the benefit of being mentored by stellar trial attorneys. In particular, I had the pleasure of working closely with Burnham "Hod" Greeley while living in Hawaii. The ABA established The Burnham “Hod” Greeley Award in his honor to recognize individuals and organizations dedicated to promoting increased public awareness of the need for a fair and impartial judiciary. He was a dedicated leader within the American Bar Association and was committed to promoting public trust and confidence in our justice system. He brought Midwest sensibility and farm boy work ethic to the practice of law (and to the laid back Aloha state).Hod was the first person to encourage the application of technology to the practice of law. He was a renowned trial attorney that understood the value of identifying relevant facts early in the case to inform the case strategy. He enabled me to expand my role by exploring and implementing technology to organize evidence and develop strategy. He taught me to craft Summary Judgement motions and tested my logic at each turn. I am grateful for his mentoring and trust in my abilities. The profession lost a bright light when he passed.
