The Council portion of the Abu Dhabi Sovereign Wealth Fund is believed to be the largest Fund in the world managed in the "large endowment model" investment style. As the Chief Strategist I was responsible for recommending and monitoring all strategies and tactical asset allocation decisions (implemented the "Decision Factors" approach to strategic allocation decisions), managing the flow of capital throughout the Fund to maintain target allocations, managing the liquidity level of the Fund, managing the risk level of the Fund within a range around the strategic risk target, managing the derivatives overlay portfolio, managing the currency overlay portfolio, managing overall Fund leverage, and providing recommendations on individual investment additions and deletions from the Fund recommended by the staff. In the United States or Europe, this role would be known as Chief Investment Officer.

UTIMCO is the first private company formed to manage a public endowment fund. The UTIMCO team managed the endowment of the University of Texas System, the largest public university endowment in the world. As CEO and CIO, I was responsible for all aspects of day to day management of both the endowment fund and the UTIMCO organization. I was also Vice Chancellor, Investments of the University Texas System. The UTIMCO portfolio contained marketable equities and fixed income, hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, real estate and real assets. UTIMCO was a leader in applying risk management techniques in the endowment space, effectively incorporating private and difficult to value assets into risk management models.
