During my time with G4S, I have worked as a Licensed Steward for Events, a Customer Care Officer for the DWP and currently as a Security Officer for a telecommunications company. My function is to carry out my duties in accordance with detailed assignment instructions, primarily to safeguard personnel and property. Daily tasks and incidents must be recorded and a National Control Centre informed where necessary. Events work requires me to be responsive to individual customer needs. High-profile clients such as Royalty, entertainers and sports personalities, for example, almost always have security staff and arrangements in place already. Situations like these need a courteous and tactful approach, whilst maintaining a fair and effective level of security. A high level of adaptability is essential. One task may require being part of a large security presence, such as a concert or sporting event. Others, such as personal escorting, are more discreet and require an approachable and hospitable manner. It was the appeal of this type of security work that led me to obtain my Close Protection licence in 2012 and is certainly the sort of role I relish, whether as part of a team or a one-man task. To obtain my licence, I secured at place at Symbiotic Training in East London, spending almost 3 weeks studying and doing practical training. This included foot formations, vehicle entry and exit drills, firearms exercises, convoy and evasive driving, surveillance techniques and hand-to-hand combat. I returned to Symbiotic in October 2012 and achieved my BTEC Level 4 Award in Security and Risk Management. My time with G4S, plus training in London with Symbiotic, has given me a wide range of experience in various environments. These include manned guarding, control room, personal escorting, front-of-house duties, door and event stewarding and hospitality. All of this has only served to inspire me to improve myself in the field of security, resulting in my pursuit of personal advancement.
