huevoicesdotcom is a multi-media blog originally published in 2008. As publisher and producer, I’ve covered the 2011 State of the City Address, the 2010 Maryland gubernatorial race and one-on-one interviews with Grammy-nominated artists Charlie Wilson, Raheem DeVaughn and Ky-mani Marley.

The Center for Emerging Media (CEM) was founded in 2000 as a 501(c)(3) private non-profit corporation. The mission of CEM is to employ all forms of media – including radio, video, and Internet – to produce unique programs addressing issues that affect our world.CEM is dedicated to introducing and giving airtime to voices that would otherwise go unheard, particularly the voices and stories of the disenfranchised and dispossessed. In addition to the usual scholars and intellectuals, listeners will hear the individuals directly affected by the issues presented. From students to prostitutes to Vietnam veterans, individuals who have not often been given the opportunity to speak will be granted a platform.CEM’s strategy is to use public radio as its base and primary medium but to integrate that work with video, and in particular the visual interactive power of the Internet. The Internet – through its enhanced capacity, archival depth, and links from major media and organizational sites – will allow CEM’s programs to reach a much wider audience.Contributors to CEM’s past and current projects include the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Open Society Institute, Fund for Change, Stony Run Friends Meeting, and a number of individual donors.

“Keep It Moving with Marsha Jews” is a public radio talk show that airs every Monday evening on WEAA 88.9 FM. Previous guests have included National Urban League CEO Marc Morial, Chef B. Smith, Meshelle The Indie-Mom of Comedy and Grammy-nominated recording artist Carolyn Malachi . As producer, I research and develop show concepts, write on-air scripts and book guests.

As a general assignment reporter, I wrote and voiced various stories including the passing of former Maryland Governor William Donald Schaefer, youth unemployment and the 2011 Baltimore City Elections.

Covered the arts & entertainment landscape for the Afro Baltimore City bureau. This includes “Jazzy Summer Nights,” an annual event previously held every summer featuring Fertile Ground, Eric Roberson, and Chuck Brown. Additional coverage included producing video feature stories for the Afro’s website.

Covered community news including healthcare initiatives for Maryland small businesses, former Baltimore Mayor Shelia Dixon’s “Parade of Champions”, and the passing of former Baltimore City Councilmember Kenneth Harris.

Produced content for “The Viewpoint”, a half-hour radio talk show sponsored by The Greater Baltimore Urban League and WERQ 92.3 FM. Hosted by veteran journalist Roderick C. Willis, “The Viewpoint” offered one-on-one interviews, news analysis and commentary on politics, health and education in the Baltimore metropolitan area. As associate producer and student-intern coordinator, I taught broadcast journalism students to write and booked guests for the show.
