Through advocacy work assignments, I attended local government and advocacy coalition meetings, recorded proceedings, advocated on local policies via public comment, and conducted follow-up with elected officials, local government staffers, and fellow advocates. To support this work, I researched and analyzed relevant local and state policies impacting family poverty and children’s well being. I broadcasted our advocacy efforts and mobilized action through written communications including action alerts and social media posts from Children First’s advocacy department accounts. Additionally, I engaged regional organizations and individuals in child advocacy through outreach, networking, and capacity-building. On the community support side of my work, I spent three afternoons per week providing educational, socioemotional, and behavioral support for a racially diverse group of low-income children (K-5) in a community-based afterschool center. I utilized new qualitative data collected on-site… Show more In my capacity as a research assistant at Universitas Sebelas Maret, I extended my thesis research on the policy and practice of higher education internationalization in cross-cultural and cross-national contexts. Working under Prof. Ismi Dwi Astuti Nurhaeni and Dr. Rino Nugroho, I conducted qualitative case study research about the national higher education internationalization policy landscape and localized university practices in Indonesia. I utilized new qualitative data collected on-site at UNS along with existing data I had already collected during my Sociology/Anthropology thesis research. My research responsibilities were varied but focused primarily on qualitative methods. I collected macro, mezzo, and micro higher education internationalization policy documents from American and Indonesian governments, institutions, and institutional sub-structures for content analysis. Additionally, I collaboratively developed, refined, and translated a survey questionnaire on higher education internationalization for undergraduate students and later descriptively analyzed student survey data. However, my research priority was interviewing lecturers, policy implementers, and policymakers at multiple levels of the university's organizational structure. To this effect, I cooperatively constructed an interview guide based on my preexisting research and other literature, and I interviewed more than fifteen stakeholders. From interview recordings, I produced transcripts for qualitative data analysis using MaxQDA software. My co-author and I are currently seeking to peer review and publish our journal article manuscript in a scholarly publication. Show less
