This has been a highly physical, yet rewarding role which has been largely project based.From setting out the shift plan for the day, setting expectations and following up and adjusting the plan where necessary, isn't retail just Project Management in a different environment? Largely running short term/micro projects with the occasional longer term projects thrown in to keep things extra interesting. Organisation, communication, goal setting, follow up and problem solving are all at the heart of this job.The plan works out? GreatIf something goes awry, someone doesn't hit their mark or someone simply doesn't show up, it's key to get in there, sort out there issue and get rolling again. Either with a revised plan or a totally new one! As retail managers, this is our bread and butter. We're used to making these calls in a high pressured environment, getting the project running smoothly again as quickly and efficiently as possible!

This role saw me learn to work independently as well as part of a team in order to reach sales targets, store standards as well as store goals across three stores. In my time with ALDI, I was given areas of responsibility ranging from frozen foods to special buys, date stamping and stock replenishment, as well as being a reliable Store Assistant in other ways. I was also given the responsibility to run stock replenishment shifts in a supervised environment, being responsible for up to four members of staff at a time. This taught me the importance of being efficient in both my work and the placement of my staff in order to work to store productivity targets, while ensuring standards were met in terms of cleanliness, stock rotation, correct stock procedure and accuracy of inventory management.

This role saw me initially start as a Crew Member following the economic crash of 2008. Within 12 months, I'd been promoted twice. Once to Crew Trainer and then onto the Shift Management path. I was responsible for a team of around 10 people per shift, depending on the projected sales patterns for the day. People placement, customer service and quality control were key in this role. Other responsibilities saw me responsible for safe management, disciplinary proceedings and being a keyholder on site.
