For the past 3 years, I have learned much about what it takes to run a business from many different angles – HR, Payroll, Accounting, IT, Marketing, Training, and developing work culture. I have worn many different hats and learned as much as I could. I found a place for myself using my technology background and love of learning to become the in-house tech support and trainer. I have been able to build great relationships with all of my team members and I appreciate being trusted with important tasks such as integrating new clients into our system, automating reconciliation tasks, and using and building new tools to solve any new challenges that arise. Moreover, I have helped each of the teams in the office by documenting processes and helping develop best practices and training materials. I am happy that my skills and unique perspective have been an asset to this company and our mission. I hope that I can someday leave this company as a better place than when I started.

Japan

Assistant Language Teacher in Utsunomiya-shi Tochigi Prefecture. I taught daily at a base high school, at 2 visit high schools, and a special needs school. I planned all of my own lessons and ran them with help from Japanese teachers of English. My main role was to expose students to a different culture, give them experience with a native speaker, and to facilitate and encourage the use of conversational English.I was also promoted to a Prefectural Advisor, where I worked with the Japanese government to help foreign teachers adjust to life in Japan, and helped them improve their teaching skills and lessons.

Though my background was in Game Design and User Experience design, I share a passion for health and exercise related research and how the body and brain work together to create human experiences. Through a friend and fellow researcher, who happens to also be a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I found an opportunity to contribute to design and vision discussions for a small health start-up geared towards a holistic and unique approach to individual fitness. What started as a consulting position has led me on a learning journey where my opinions were valued and I helped shape the look, feel, and mission of a company. Start-ups have many unique challenges, particularly funding, but they also provide an amazing place to share, grow, and learn.
