My passions are learning, teaching, play - an most recently - DATA.For the past 3 years, I have been working at my family's company learning what it takes to run a business from the ground up. I have had the privilege of experiencing many different roles and was surprised at how many of my skills can be transferred from one roll to another, often in untraditional ways. I found a place for myself supporting my peers with technology and finding ways to improve our structure and workflow - including the restructuring of our digital filing system and the use of project management software. Most of my job is helping our team succeed by removing obstacles or streamlining processes. I have to learn the ins and outs of multiple new systems and then help our team use them efficiently or troubleshoot when things go wrong. The rest of my job usually focusses on data transformation and reporting, including building visual dashboards and automating work or building new tools with excel and Power Query. I have found a deep passion for all things excel and am responsible for in house development and training.Before that, I lived and worked in Japan for 4 years where I had the chance to adapt, explore, and reflect on my life and my career. As a teacher of English, I used my User Experience design skills to create engaging lessons and activities for students of various learning levels and iterate/change those lessons to better fit different groups of students. I actually never imagined the overlap that UX design would have in teaching; but in order to create engaging learning experiences: planning, iteration, and user testing were powerful tools. These transferable skills allowed me to excel and help many students and teachers by improving the quality of my lessons and allowed me to alter lessons on the fly if my students were struggling with the planned activities.Whether I am writing, planning, crafting, or designing, I like being part of a team where I can continue to grow and make a difference. I am confident in my ability and willingness to work hard and learn whatever I need to.
