Previously performed the duties as a C-130 Avionics Engineer primarily for FMS supporting Japan, Chile, and the Philippines, providing modification oversight and on-site troubleshooting. Provided updates to requirements, drawings, installation instructions, and wiring diagrams. FMS offered me the opportunity to take junior engineers into the field allowing them to gain experience and confidence with dealing not only with the technical issues at hand but with the pressures encountered when having to resolve technical issues that have resulted in a stop work situation and program management scrutiny. Provided on-site (UK) support for the modification of the Blue Angels “Fat Albert” C-130 support aircraft. Provided publication and wiring diagram updates for Fat Albert. Avionics engineer on the Avionics Obsolescence Upgrade (AOU) glass cockpit upgrade program. Responsible for assessing the flight readiness of Space Shuttle electrical hardware.Researched and assessed Space Shuttle vehicle electrical system anomalies, prepared documentation for problem resolution, vehicle refurbishment, and implemented system modifications. Provided technical support for system testing, and vehicle operations including modifications, inspection, troubleshooting, and mentoring of junior engineers. Performed risk assessments on lost and missing hardware within the Space Shuttle vehicles assessing the impact of the loose hardware on the vehicle’s electrical system while in the ascent and space environments.Analyzed, developed, and approved repair dispositions for nonconforming electrical hardware, avionics boxes, wiring, lighting, and displays and controls on the Space Shuttle vehicles.Performed system data trend analysis and review of all electrical discrepancies for a given vehicle flow. Prepared presentation of results for the NASA customer.Provided operational support and troubleshooting of cranes used for the hoisting of flight hardware to and from the payload bay of a Space Shuttle vehicle. Performed preventative maintenance testing and troubleshooting of Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Ormec motion controllers using a laptop computer connected to the crane’s control system. Provided disposition for work authorizing documents, reviewed and approved real-time changes to system paper, and task floor support. Made on-the-fly changes to work instructions on the floor to eliminate errors and ensure proper buy-offs are identified, etc. Solved complex technical problems in a team environment using knowledge of operational concepts and processes. Interfaced with multiple engineering teams, ground processing management, technicians, and NASA to identify operational impacts and priorities and to address floor level issues and work stoppages.Coordinated risk assessments between multiple systems for the lost, found, and missing hardware within the Space Shuttle vehicles. Performed trend analysis of these items and prepared presentations which I gave to the astronaut crew in a briefing prior to launch. Addressed the astronaut’s concerns for these items at the briefing.Responsible for the oversight and buy-off of the installation and removal of temporary work access platforms in and around the Space Shuttle vehicle.Spearheaded the replacement of a missing strap on galley water lines in the crew module during launch countdown, merely hours before launch, resulting in recognition from upper management.Coordinated the clean-up and damage assessment of a major post-flight hydraulic leak in the aft compartment of Space Shuttle Discovery.Maintained compliance to established standards to avoid audit findings in associated engineering documentation.Supported daily scheduling meetings attended by all system engineering groups and occasionally the astronaut crew.Developed and maintained department website using Dreamweaver providing a clearinghouse of information for quick access on the floor. -
