Hi, I'm Bobby! I'm an experienced Software Engineer and Technical Architect with over 7 years of experience, who loves to build things, solve problems, read, and adventure with my wife and little dog.As a kindergartner, my teacher would find me on the floor, following the various wires of the classroom. I had to know where they went and I had to learn to speak their languages. So I've followed many computer wires, and learned to become the creator behind the things that the wires powered, on both the hardware and software aspects. This innate curiosity led me to the steel cable wires of a trapeze, through my job at the Circus Co. where I created company's webpages, constructed a secure inventory and entertainer scheduling platform, and designed their computer network. This resulted in an increased web presence and company growth. I also flew on the trapeze a few times. Then, my wire chasing led me to my position at InstrumentLife. This start-up software company focuses on building a cloud platform for integrating what's physical with what's virtual. This has included creating a variety of applications and devices such as RFID and NFC chips to give any physical object its own digital fingerprint. The innovative and friendly web-based user interface and apps have gained a lot of attention from area manufacturers, bands, and schools. Most recently, my larger wires have led me to my current position at GE Aviation, where I work with a team of talented individuals to create an application platform providing engineers of various projects (be it Jet Engines or Wind Turbines) various software tools for the full lifecycle of the product they're working to build.I look forward to seeing where my wire chasing takes me next. Technical ArchitectGe Aerospace Sep 2018 - Jan 2021Cincinnati, Oh, UsI am responsible for the overall technical stack and roadmap for a large software platform internal to GE Aviation, serving > 10000 engineers and suppliers. In this position, I've developed a high performance, modular reactive software framework for high capacity services complimentary to our normal Spring based Java development system. This framework, with a core written in C, provides a central message passing mechanism allowing runtime loadable app components written in any number of languages for various levels of efficiency. These modules connect and communicate via reactive message passing via the framework core. This system allows us to build compute intensive applications and services which use 20% of the resources of a JVM. I've also expanded our AWS strategy to move our entire export controlled platform to GovCloud, increasing our fault tolerance, scalability, and Interoperability. In order to reduce technical debt and scale developer efficiency, I've introduced new procedures for documenting and reusing code, and created new channels of communication where developers from across the globe can learn and voice concerns.In preparing for this role, I served as a mentor to incoming software engineering interns who were assigned a project for integrating automated Robot testing.

Software EngineerGe Aerospace Nov 2016 - Sep 2018Cincinnati, Oh, UsI work with a team of talented Software Engineers and Architects to develop apps and services for a software platform designed to manage engineering projects. The apps and services aligned to this platform serve both aviation engineers and suppliers. My duties involve building Spring/Java based core microservices for the platform, as well as integrating an automated CI/CD pipeline for microservice and application deployments, with an emphasis on DevOps philosophy.In this role, I also refactored and wrote extensive documentation for older Java microservice applications created for our platform, as well as legacy services being migrated to our system. Additionally, I assisted in helping our team create new standards for high-level conceptual software documentation, while sticking to clean coding principals at the code level.I designed and co-built two core platform module Java microservices for efficient, distributed software task scheduling and for creating and deploying notifications. I also worked on a team to develop a new Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipeline for applications and core components of our software platform.One of the biggest projects I was given was designing and building a custom distributed service for automating the deployment and configuration of Docker containers for microservices and providing a persistent, distributed filesystem for use across EC2 instances in AWS GovCloud. This project had to be highly efficient, and needed to integrate with the Linux kernel VFS. The language of choice was C. The first release of this project was completed in time for our first adventure into partial cloud migrations.

CreatorCrawford Lights, And Santa'S Rockin' Wonderland Dec 2010 - Jan 2014I imagined, then created a holiday light-show-spectaculare for my community. This is an especially fun project because it challenges me both internally and externally; what I can create with my mind convenes with the limitations of my performance space and what I can physically build. I also learned how to master over 120 computer controlled circuits, and programmed lights to dance to music down to ten milliseconds at a time.I collaborated with community partners, a marketing and social media manager, and a team of people to grow my display to over 60,000 lights. Overall, I raised hundreds of dollars for diabetes and cancer research.Note: I continued Crawford Lights into the holiday season of 2014, but due to space constraints, the community partner could not accommodate the mini light display of winter 2014.
