In addition to my role at Tencent Cloud, I also spend a significant amount of my time, serving as a General Secretary to the Technical Committee of the Cloud & Smart Industries Group (CSIG). CSIG (where Tencent Cloud is a subsidiary) is the largest business group (BG) in Tencent with more than 20,000 employees. The Technical Committee consists of a few dozen business unit (BU) General Managers (GMs) and highest-ranked (T14+) technical experts. It collectively acts as the CTO for the BG.I am an initial member of the committee and I am generally responsible for its daily operation, overseeing the 8 sub-committees with a full spectrum of duties. I also provide general assistance to the Head of the Technical Committee.

As the Chief Architect and the Principal Engineer in the Cloud-native team in Tencent Cloud, I cultivate and lead innovative Cloud-native projects and teams, differentiating Tencent Cloud from competitors.We initiated the SuperEdge open-source project (github.com/superedge/superedge). SuperEdge is an edge-native container management system. SuperEdge aims to be the industry‘s best practice in application orchestration on the edge. SuperEdge is a collaboration between Tencent and a few other founding companies: Intel, VMware, Meituan, Huya, Cambricon, Capitalonline. SuperEdge powers a full range of cloud product offerings from Tencent and our partners. SuperEdge became a CNCF Sandbox project in September 2021. It was the first CNCF project from Tencent.My team also recently launched the Clusternet open source project (github.com/clusternet/clusternet). Clusternet facilitates the formation of Distributed Cloud (a.k.a. cloud anywhere, or specifically hybrid/multi-cloud), by providing capabilities to manage a large amount of Kubernetes clusters. It tackles the long-standing challenge of multi-cluster management in the Cloud-native space and hopes to provide a solution that is as easy to use as ‘accessing the Internet’ (thus the name 'Clusternet'). We believe this constitutes a core effort in building the next generation cloud. Clusternet has also become a CNCF project.In addition to the technical contribution, these projects also served as a good venue for people development. There have been repeated cases that members in our projects later took up leadership role of cloud-native teams in reputable cloud companies in the industry.I also led the cloud-native community efforts in Tencent Cloud. My community team managed the 'Tencent Cloud-Native' (腾讯云原生) official account, in WeChat and other social media, as the major blog space for the work in the area from the company.

I was the General Manager of Docker China, responsible for Docker’s overall business in the country. I was the company's first employee in Asia and I built up the region from scratch.I worked to establish a major partnership between Docker and a leading Chinese cloud service provider. The partnership facilitated the resell of Docker's world-leading enterprise container platform in China.I had a diversified job scope, including business development, marketing, sales, customer success, engineering, etc. It was both business and technical-oriented - I led a team to drive marketing and sales while being an expert in container (Docker and Kubernetes - K8s), micro-services, and serverless technologies.

I established and led the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in VMware China, focusing on the development of new cloud technologies, e.g. container, serverless, IoT and unikernel.ATC developed Project Harbor (github.com/goharbor/harbor), an open source trusted cloud native registry that stores, signs, and scans software content. Since its open source in 2016, the project has gained a significant amount of popularity in the community (>15,000 stars on Github). It is the world's most starred open source container registry project and the most starred open source project in VMware globally. Harbor was donated to Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF, under Linux Foundation) in 2018 for wider global adoption. It was the first CNCF project originated in China. In 2020, Harbor graduated from CNCF and became the first graduated project from China. Over the years, Harbor has become an industry's de-facto choice for private container registry. A recent CNCF survey in China revealed that nearly half of the cloud-native users are using Harbor in production.In addition to engineering, I also worked with VMware corporate team on M&A and investment opportunities in the region. I was also previously responsible for the engineering programs and operations of VMware China R&D, covering a full range of functions, from budget to HR and from communication to administration.

I managed the engineering team in the IBM Singapore Lab. IBM Singapore Lab is the presence of IBM Research in South East Asia. We delivered advanced AI and big data products and solutions for Asia.I led the engineering efforts in a couple of big data analytics projects. I designed big data platform and analytics pipeline for smarter city engagements in environment (air quality and smog prediction) and transportation (traffic prediction and control). The projects equipped Singapore government with predictive analytics capabilities and enabled data-driven decision making.I was part of the IBM Singapore Leadership Team (SLT), driving IBM’s business in Singapore. I represented IBM to engage C-level executives and technical communities to promote IBM and foster sales and collaboration.
