A design phase to produce a proposal for a hybrid cloud, Cassandra, relational, integrated Data Platform for the technical data across the divisions of Baker Hughes GE. I was responsible for the data model and some of the data versioning required to make it work in this O&G environment. Most of the challenges related to:- data versioning and data perspectives, data alignment (mastering), and object design to work in a big-data environment. The architecture involved AWS, Azure, Hive, Cassandra, Spark, and Polybase.

Had a lot of fun leading a team of 7 to devise and implement a relational / Non-relational globally distributed combined data strategy for an application suite for field operations before the commercially available tools were reliable and flexible enough to do it. Set up feeds from third parties to our central server cluster and distribute data to field machines by automated methods where connectivity was available and by sneaker-net for other locations. Led a team that re-worked and expanded Halliburton’s Technical Data model, originally developed as part of the POSC initiative, from an academic logical model to a practical self-defining, object-supporting physical model on Oracle, Microsoft Access/ SQL Server and proprietary Non-SQL database. This was a Relational non-Relational combined model. Start to reconcile, clean and load Master data and set up feeds from internal sources to keep the operational data servers up-to-date with the financial, materials, equipment and marketing systems. Make data available over intranet

Managed a team of about 25 through the design and development of the integration of multiple real-time and post-acquisition processing systems. Mainly C on AIXReal-time database: Lead a team to rework an in-house Non-SQL database to work fast enough (about 1000 times as fast as Oracle at that time) to act as the heart of the new integrated system. This involved considerable interaction with IBM to fix parts of the AIX virtual memory system to enable the database to run quickly enough.

Software Development Manager, managed Technology transfer from UK to multiple sites in the USA. These were challenging roles as in both cases half the local teams were terminated prior to the transfer so the transfer to the remaining staff was as much a personnel and management challenge as it was a teaching and technical challenge. The real-time data acquisition system for which I was the Software Development Manager was adopted by US parent and integrated into the development stream and then field operations for two different parents. I successfully transitioned the product into a money making field operations system on both occasions working first with groups in both England and Ft. Software Development Manager responsible for all aspects of software development for the company reporting to the Technical Director. Department of 15 to 17 engineers; developing a real-time data acquisition system including operation system support, device driver development for customer hardware (High speed graphics, printing and data capture), real-time graphics interface, real-time data processing and a real-time database. Also responsible for post-acquisition data manipulation (merging, splicing, editing) and processing (sampling, smoothing, correlation, multiple transformations).
