Extensive software development experience with at least 2 years in each phase from market conceptualization through to production support. Last 20 years primarily database related.I enjoy helping people identify their real goals and problems and then help them to solve them. I am better at abstract thinking but can deal with the specifics and the detail too.Specialties: Helping organizations to understand their real problems and achieve performance goals. Extensive real-time software development experience and extensive database development and production support experience with very large databases in addition to consultancy experience within many different industries help me to bring a fresh approach, and / or useful examples to almost any environment.

Data Architect/ModelerO'Reily Auto / Capstone Apr 2020 - Apr 2021Re-engineering a moderately large Enterprise Data Warehouse onto IBM’s Integrated Analytics System (IIAS) hardware; working remotely with both in-house resources and other contract resources. A good bunch of people sharing the learning process. IBM DB2 LUW SQL Module implementation proved to be a challenging environment for a generalize meta-data management tool but other aspects worked well. ( IIAS, DB2, Columnar, Big data, SQL Modules, Kimball, snowflake, ER/Studio )

Data Architect/ Data ModelerBaker Hughes Ge Jul 2019 - Oct 2019A design phase to produce a proposal for a hybrid cloud, Cassandra, relational, integrated Data Platform for the technical data across the divisions of Baker Hughes GE. I was responsible for the data model and some of the data versioning required to make it work in this O&G environment. Most of the challenges related to:- data versioning and data perspectives, data alignment (mastering), and object design to work in a big-data environment. The architecture involved AWS, Azure, Hive, Cassandra, Spark, and Polybase.

Data Architect / Data ModelerCaterpillar May 2016 - Mar 2019Helping a group of bright people in the Supply side to sort out their understanding of their data. Trying to get a focus on a common understanding and representation of their data at a global enterprise level while they have been firmly focused in regional business silos.Working with relational and big data in a mixed environment with tools like C3IoT

Software ArchitectWaste Management 2012 - Jul 2014Helped design and build a Pricing Performance Portal to enable pricing, marketing, and sales management to slice and dice to better manage their pricing management.Responsible for the modeling for the Operational data store driving the Customer Centric Database, several of the main reporting schemata and for modeling standards. (Netezza, MicroStrategy)
-
Modeler / ArchitectWaste Management 2010 - 2012Helped design and built a Customer Focused Growth decision support system enabling revenue reporting by customer, service and salesman in addition to the dimensions that were already available for sub-sets of the data through other systems. Integrated data from eight different invoice systems (20 systems in total) from three different companies to provide a consistent view of the data.. (ER/Studio, Netezza, Microstrategy, Oracle.)
-
Data ModelerDisys May 2009 - Jan 2010With one other modeler, developed an Enterprise data model for Operational data store and warehouse from scratch; going live on three reporting schemata and one operational schema in seven months.

Data ConsultantHalliburton Energy Services 2007 - 2008Reengineer the report data generation process to be adaptive to data problems and to work incrementally so that report data is made available every hour if requested. Responsible for Halliburton's technical data model.
-
Data ConsultantHalliburton Energy Service 2004 - 2006Led a team of 5. Extend OLTP model, data and distributed data model to enable field integration of applications with SAP where connectivity allows. Extend reporting schema to cope better with the growing reporting needs and Migrate main databases to Oracle 10g on RAC. Formalize report data generation process into standard package structure and rationalize reporting. Expanded model to deal with new divisions, regions, processes and applications. Responsible for Halliburton's technical data model.

Data ConsultantHalliburton Energy Services 2000 - 2004Houston, Texas, UsLed a team of 6. Responsible for Halliburton's technical data model. Remodeled reporting schemata to cope with field, district, regional and global management needs. Migrated data extraction to take customer, equipment, material, pricing, ticketing and much reference data from the SAP. Remodeled data and provided data architecture support to the development team reworking the applications to reflect the change. Re-engineered job packet routing, data distribution and data synchronization processes. Expanded parallelism of backend processes. Started automation of monitoring and recovery of backend processes to improve uptime. Continually expanding the ODS model to deal with new divisions, regions, processes, and applications. -
Distributed Data ArchitectHalliburton Energy Services 1997 - 2000Houston, Texas, UsHad a lot of fun leading a team of 7 to devise and implement a relational / Non-relational globally distributed combined data strategy for an application suite for field operations before the commercially available tools were reliable and flexible enough to do it. Set up feeds from third parties to our central server cluster and distribute data to field machines by automated methods where connectivity was available and by sneaker-net for other locations. Expanded model to deal with new divisions, regions, processes and applications.(Migrate to Oracle 8, Triggers, PL/SQL, Oracle Advanced Replication, 24x365, hot backups, ErWin, Pro-C, SQL, AIX, Korn shell and C-Shell, VB, Windows, Jet Engine ). Responsible for Halliburton's technical data model -
Data ArchitectHalliburton Energy Services 1995 - 1997Houston, Texas, UsLed a team that re-worked and expanded Halliburton’s Technical Data model, originally developed as part of the POSC initiative, from an academic logical model to a practical self-defining, object-supporting physical model on Oracle, Microsoft Access/ SQL Server and proprietary Non-SQL database. This was a Relational non-Relational combined model. Start to reconcile, clean and load Master data and set up feeds from internal sources to keep the operational data servers up-to-date with the financial, materials, equipment and marketing systems. Make data available over intranet -
Group Manager, Technical SoftwareHalliburton Energy Services 1992 - 1995Houston, Texas, UsManaged a team of about 25 through the design and development of the integration of multiple real-time and post-acquisition processing systems. Mainly C on AIXReal-time database: Lead a team to rework an in-house Non-SQL database to work fast enough (about 1000 times as fast as Oracle at that time) to act as the heart of the new integrated system. This involved considerable interaction with IBM to fix parts of the AIX virtual memory system to enable the database to run quickly enough. -
Software Development ManagerHalliburton-Tesel 1988 - 1992Software Development Manager, managed Technology transfer from UK to multiple sites in the USA. These were challenging roles as in both cases half the local teams were terminated prior to the transfer so the transfer to the remaining staff was as much a personnel and management challenge as it was a teaching and technical challenge. The real-time data acquisition system for which I was the Software Development Manager was adopted by US parent and integrated into the development stream and then field operations for two different parents. I successfully transitioned the product into a money making field operations system on both occasions working first with groups in both England and Ft. Worth and later with groups in England, Seattle, Ft. Worth and Houston. Managing budgets, equipment, personnel and projects across multiple sites
