After being redshirted as a freshman in 2010 with the University of Buffalo, Branden Oliver erupted his sophomore year in 2011 as one of the best running backs in the conference and all of Division I. Oliver rushed for 1,395 yards on 306 carries, breaking UB’s single-season rushing record and broke James Stark’s single-season rushing record on the final day of the season. Ranked 14th in the nation and Offensive Player of the Week two times, Branden totaled 1,760 all-purpose yards at the end of the season and was named to Phil Steele’s 2011 All-MAC first team. He ranked second in average yards per game (116.2), set a school record by going over 100 yards on eight occasions.During his junior year in 2012, Branden was a member of the Maxwell, Doak Walker, and Walter Camp preseason watch lists, but injuries tampered with a promising start to the season. Oliver still led the team in rushing with 821 yards, despite missing five complete games and the better part of four others. Had he played in one more game to qualify nationally, he would have ranked 13th in the country in yards per game (with 117.3). Oliver opened eyes nationally with 111 yards and a touchdown to open the season against Georgia (9/1), followed by 25 carries for a UB Division I-A-record 238 yards and two touchdowns against Morgan State. Oliver then entered his final season just 626 yards, and two 100-yard games away from owning the program record for career rushing yards and 100-yard games. As a senior this year, Oliver broke his own season high rushing record and ended his year with 310 carries for 1,535 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had 173 yards receiving, one reception for a touchdown, totaling 1708 all-purpose yards. Branden has left his mark and records with UB and has developed himself into a dynamic running back with great speed and explosive quickness. In Spring of 2014, the San Diego Chargers signed Branden Oliver.
