I was Commissioned as an Army 2nd Lieutenant in June 1959 after completing the ROTC program at Washington University in St. Louis. I was stationed, as one of the three commissioned officers, at a Nike Hercules Missile Base in Chestertown, Maryland; the Eastern most location in the Washington Baltimore Defense. Following my two years of active duty, I spent 3 1/2 years in the Army Reserves as a Tank Battalion Commander. In 18 months after being commissioned, I was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and was made a Captain when I left active duty and joined the Reserves.
