    My focus in this position was to work with engineers on continuous improvement projects that increased the life cycle and performance of tools used in the manufacture of transmission parts. I would meet daily with production managers and department heads to make sure we took a consistent approach to the company’s priorities and addressed customer concerns in a timely manner. I reviewed production data from the previous shift to determine each day’s assignments. I also assisted the Tool Room manager with press scheduling and provided support to the maintenance department during breakdowns. M.S.M. is a division of Magna Powertrain, the world’s largest automotive supplier. It is a 24/5 plant with a press capacity of 1100 tons. --I was able to reduce perishable tooling costs by more than 50% by researching and implementing new tool steel technology that increased the quality and life of our tools.--We were faced with a problem with defective parts. By implementing a new vision system that inspected and captured defective parts as they left the press, I was able to virtually eliminate defective products arriving at our customers’ sites. --By working with our engineers, we were able to reduce scrap rate 50% during assembly in the laser welding department.

    In this role, I worked directly with the owner of the company and the engineering manager to manage P&L and provide quotes for new business. I used CAD software to review part drawings and tool designs. I also provided technical support for the machining and tooling department, monitored tooling progress, reviewed tools designs and part drawings, and resolved open issues. Woodbine is a Tier 2 manufacturing facility with a 1200-ton press capacity. --When faced with a $150k difference between our quote and a U.S. customer’s budget, I was able to bridge the gap by capitalizing on a $.07 decrease in the value of the Canadian dollar to hedge U.S. currency. As a result, the deal was sealed, the customer was satisfied, and Woodbine put 25,000 man hours towards this project.

    As Plant Manager, I monitored work load, maintained the building and equipment, and managed full P&L responsibilities. I also completed tool buy-offs with customers at their facilities throughout Canada and the U.S. to fulfill PPaP (Production Part Approval Process) requirements. KNM is a 23/5 tooling manufacturing facility with a press capacity of 900 tons. --The company was not aware that they were eligible for R&D tax credits, and I saw that as a tremendous untapped resource. I contacted the engineering firm that I had used previously; they then spent two months with us gathering data for tax credits. As a result, we were eligible to file for two years’ worth of R&D tax credits. --I discovered that the local YMCA offered grants for training. I applied and received $80k in training capital over a two-year span; I used these funds to hire and train several new employees. This was a win-win, in that it allowed my company to test-drive some potential new hires, while also providing financial incentives for the candidate and my company. --I was able to reduce manufacturing costs by adding new technology including a CNC milling machine that significantly reduced the need for outsourcing. --I introduced and sustained a 5S program to bring order and congruence to the company.
