I managed a team of more than 50 journalists in fast-paced day to day news coverage, managing executive producers, producers, writers, anchors, reporters, photographers, meteorologists and video editors. Each day, I helped develop and implement a plan to report the news on NECN, NECN.com, and through social media.I was a big part of the management team that made NECN into the nation’s largest and most honored 24-hour local cable news network. We won numerous awards during my time at NECN, including the national duPont Columbia, Peabody and Edward R. Murrow Awards, as well as numerous local Emmy Awards.I led the daily story assignment process, assigning reporters to stories, focusing on what angles should be covered.I managed producers and executive producers in making editorial decisions in a constantly changing breaking news environment.I provided regular feedback to internal staff, including producers, executive producers and on-air talent. I successfully developed and implemented coverage plans for numerous big events, including elections, the Whitey Bulger trial, and the Marathon bombing anniversary.I played a key role in the recruiting and hiring of all newsroom staff, including anchors, reporters, producers and photographers.I worked closely with News Director on the overall strategy and budget for the news department.I managed and scheduled all news anchors, meteorologists and video editors.

I was responsible for the overall production of newscasts for NECN. This included direct management of producers, guiding them through the best use of the technology available to them. I was also responsible for editing all written scripts for newscasts in varying day-parts.

I was responsible for all aspects of the WBZ Morning News. This included the direct supervision of two producers, two writers and two field crews (reporter/photographer/truck operator)I succeeded developing and implementing a plan to get producers to increase the pace of these newscasts, and increase the use of moving graphics.I was able to create a system where we would have one of our anchors live in the field for special events, such as Red Sox Opening Day, the Boston Marathon and the Boston Pops 4th of July Concert.

I began as a dayside producer, worked my way to becoming producer of the station’s signature 9pm newscast.I was promoted to Executive Producer in 2001, overseeing the production of all afternoon and evening newscasts.

I taught Broadcast Journalism class for four consecutive semesters.I was responsible for creating syllabus, and developing plans for the class during each semester.I developed mentor relationships with several students, who are now enjoying successful careers.
