He is lead investor and Board member of GXT Green, an economically driven environmental company. At Whitman and associates, he consulted for alternative investment managers. From 1981 to the present, Mr. Matson was a private investor and performed international and defense related consulting for a number of clients many of them were in the defense industry. He performed these services as President of Financial Management Group, a company he founded in 1981 to assist early stage companies develop business plans, commercialize their technology, and to raise development capital for them. He also performed investment banking services for mid sized companies.From May 1986 until December 1991, Mr. Matson was a Partner of Harvard Management Company in Boston. Harvard Management manages the Harvard University Endowment. At Harvard, Mr. Matson founded and managed the active global hedge portfolio of two hundred and fifty million dollars. During his tenure, the portfolio substantially outperformed the Morgan Stanley Global Index, commonly used to measure performance. His work required extensive international travel where he met with finance, intelligence, and defense ministers, central bankers, corporate executives, economists, and politicians.From 1978-1981 he was a Management Consultant for Arthur D. Little, Inc. His work there centered around helping senior management of major international companies with the growth and planning of their business. Previous to Arthur D. Little, from 1969-1976, he was employed by Hewlett-Packard Company as an engineer, both in Research and Development and in Manufacturing. He has served as an advisor to many companies, private individuals and entrepreneurs.
