About Bob Mccarthy

Leadership and building great teams has played an important part in my life, both on and off the water. I grew up on the west coast of Ireland and from a young age, the water has been my happy place. For 16 years I lived a life of adventure in the Irish Navy. In 1989 I raced in the Whitbread Round the World yacht race. I’ve been sailing ever since and I’ve competed in some of the biggest races in the world including the Transatlantic, TransPacific, Fastnet and Sydney Hobart.I learned a lot about leadership in the Navy including how not to lead. My first job gave me my first lessons in how not to sell. After I left the Navy I worked in a sales role for a life insurance company. Considering I still work in sales today I’d love to say I was a natural from the start. I wasn’t. I hated the underhanded techniques used to hoodwink people. It went against everything I stood for.Sales has become a dirty word for a lot of people - it doesn’t have to be that way. Selling isn’t something you do to people. It’s something you do for and with people.The fact there are so many organisations giving the profession a bad name is a huge opportunity for those who are professional and act with integrity to do things differently, to defy the stereotype, to stand out. The work I do with Integrity Solutions is all about helping people and organisations develop the mindsets and skillsets to win more customers, keep more customers and grow their business.     I started Leadership Management Ireland (LMI) in April 2000. Recognising that the area of leadership development and team-building was poorly served in Ireland at that time , I sought to start a business that had the ability and resources to make a measurable impact on our clients’ Organisational Growth and to provide a very measurable Return on Investment (ROI) to our clients.Starting in 2000 , LMA grew quickly as our approach took advantage of the time proven principle that people learn by doing.
