I began my professional career as a development engineer at IBM. I advanced quickly during my 15 years at the Boulder, Colorado site. IBM enabled me to develop skills in product development, system architecture, and managing large organizations. I was responsible for the IBM microprocessor strategy, the 4300 Processor Development, 3270 Display Product Line, VTAM, Document Content Architecture, System III Copier, and High-End Laser Printers. My primary skill set was managing large complex development projects and being responsible for the business cases that included revenue forecasts and P&L.I joined Data General Corporation in 1981 as the COO, responsible for all aspects of Data General’s Worldwide operations. During my time at Data General, we grew from $700M / year to 1.3B/year. As COO, I was able to transform Data General from an OEM hot iron company to a major player in Enterprise Office Automation. I left Data General in 1987 to join MIPS as CEO, and in two and a half years, we took MIPS public and grew revenue from zero to $100M trailing. In 1992 MIPS was sold to SGI for 25% of SGI stock. Over the next two years, that grew in value to be worth $2.5B.Since then, I have been a seed investor, startup CEO, and board member. I am currently the CEO of Tenefit, the company that invented Websocket Technology, and is now applying that technology to our DisasterAWARE Enterprise solutions.Board Memberships:SGI, Ingres, IPO, Vitesse, IPO, Rasna, Sold to Parametric Technology, BeVocel, Sold to Nuance, Netpower, Sold to EMC, and Life Trustee of the Urban Institute.Chairman & CEO of MIPS
