Hereditary hemochromatosis is the most common genetic disorder affecting one in 300 Canadians. It is a crippling, potentially fatal condition caused by iron overload in the vital organs and tissues. The complications caused by the disorder are preventable. Giving blood is the normal treatment.The Canadian Hemochromatosis Society is dedicated to building awareness of of hemochromatosis and its early screening, diagnosis and treatment.

Engaged staff and encouraged volunteers, managed financial operations and increased community relationships.This not-for-profit organization on Vancouver's' North Shore focused reaching out to men, women and their children living on low incomes or who face other setbacks like family break-ups, illness, job loss or addiction. The agency helped them overcome a crisis so that it was temporary – not life-defining – and offered them help until they could stand on their own. The agency provided one-on-one guidance, private counseling, life skills training, access to our resource center, and temporary financial relief through food and job-interview clothing. The Harvest Project extends "a hand up, not a hand out" to anyone willing to make changes in their lives to turn despair into hope.
