Bob Simpson is the Founder and CEO of the Multifamily Impact Council, a national non-profit organization responsible for establishing and maintaining the first common framework of impact principles and reporting metrics for the multifamily industry. Bob is a nationally recognized expert in affordable, green and healthy housing with more than 25 years of experience working at the highest levels of housing finance and public policy. He enjoyed a 20 year career at Fannie Mae where he served as Vice President and Head of their Affordable Rental Housing Business. During his tenure, he helped increase affordable housing investments on Native American reservations and in underserved rural areas, established tenant pad lease protections for manufactured housing communities, and created the industry’s first green bond program. Under Bob's leadership, his team developed innovative new approaches to financing that enabled Fannie Mae to become the leading provider of affordable multifamily debt in the country and the largest issuer of green bonds in the world.Bob's work has been cited in Fortune, Forbes, Impact Alpha, The Washington Post, The Journal of Property Management, and Bloomberg. He has appeared as a guest on C-Span and National Public Radio and is a frequent speaker and panelist at national affordable housing and impact investing conferences. In 2019, he co-authored "Healthy Housing for All: How Affordable Housing is Leading the Way” and is frequently quoted in industry trade press on affordable and green housing issues.Prior to joining Fannie Mae, Bob worked for six and a half years as a Special Assistant and Senior Legislative Aide to Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.Bob is the former national chairperson of the Urban Land Institute’s Affordable Workforce Housing Council. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for Active Design, Up for Growth Action and is a founding member of the Fellowship Jazz Center. He also serves as a pro-bono coach for the Housing Innovation Lab at the University of California-Berkeley and is a senior advisor to a select number of early-stage housing technology firms, including Esusu, Pronto Housing, Viva Benefits , and WYL.
