As the acting art director for Simon Scribbles I managed over 30 titles per season, designing book covers, interiors, and novelty packaging. Hired outside illustrators and designers. Interpret and incorporate style guides from different licensed properties to create original book projects, movie and television tie-ins. Also work on non-licensed projects. Work with the editorial and production department on budge pricing. Provide creative direction for freelancer designers and illustrators. Managed licensed book projects for major brands including Nickelodeon, Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Playskool, Hasbro and Marvel.As an in-house designer, I design covers and interiors for the Spot Light imprint, Pulse, McElderry and Aladdin imprints. Utilizing the “best practices” to ensure that the original book design is e-book compatible while maintaining the original design.

Freelance Design and Illustration

On-site freelance graphic designer. I designed book covers, interiors and mechanicals for the Harper Teen imprint; both the hard cover and paperback editions, including titles from New York Times Bestselling Authors. Met production schedules; daily contact with creative director, art director, copyediting and production. Developed projects from concept through to final mechanicals, including special effects mechanicals. Used illustration skills to hand letter and mock up sketches and finishes.

As Art Director, I managed approximately 50 titles per season for the Adult and Children departments. I oversaw 4 in-house designers and multiple freelance photographers, designers, and illustrators. I also designed a portion of the Sterling Children’s list, both covers and interiors. I maintained ongoing communications about schedules with the Editorial and Production departments. I maintained consistent standards of design, photography, illustration, prepress, and color printing for all projects. I worked closely with the Design Director to increase productivity, communication, collaboration, design creativity, and quality.As a freelancer, I designed many frontlist titles, including The Weird series, Based on the popular Weird New Jersey book. My illustrated books include The Chapman’s Piloting Guide, the Lincoln Logs Building Manual, and the Tinker Toys Building Manual.
