As software architect at Smit I am responsible for defining the technical software road map in line with the overall product-, process- and system roadmap. I lead the software team on a technical level and I am responsible for defining and deploying the complete process of software development. I cooperate closely with architects and engineers from other disciplines and strategic (internal) customers in a multidisciplinary team.

I do software development in C, C++ and C#. When taking on projects, I favor a no-nonsense approach in which projects are executed according to a well defined and tried software development process.

In February 2018 I was appointed Software Architect of the CORDIS-SUITE. The CORDIS-SUITE is our comprehensive set of software tools for the development and deployment of machine control software. My task is to insure that our suite remains a consistent set of applications, while improving customer experience by adding new features and target platforms. Furthermore, I am responsible for enhancing our software development process.

Cordis focusses on Model Based Engineering of software for production machines and embedded devices. We created a suite of software tools for this purpose, which we also license to customers. Our code generator generates PLC or C# code from UML diagrams describing the system. Small pieces of macro code are included in the UML diagrams for defining actions and state transitions. The so-called CORDIS-SUITE also contains full-fledged client and server applications, which make it easy to test, debug and deploy your software. I work both on improving the CORDIS-SUITE and on customer projects. For one of our customers, Additive Industries, I worked on the control software for their industrial-size 3D printer. For Nordson-Dima I co-developed the software for their C-Quence line of very large pick-and-place machines.

Helmond

At Salland, I led a team of developers who work on the MapWareHouse software. This software suite enables microchip manufacturers to store and manage maps of the wafers they have in production for quality purposes. Besides leading the team, I managed a project in which we added customer specific features for a client. I also participated in the development activities for this project.

At Civolution I managed and improved the software configuration and build environment. An important aspect of the job was to improve and document the processes and way of working regarding configuration management and software releasing.

ASML is at the absolute forefront of technology with their EUV wafer steppers. I worked on the driver that controls the EUV source and wrote code in C and Python. Also, I was the chairman of the ASML C Coding Standard Board.

I negotiate and plan the integration of software modules for a new generation of wafer scanners (semiconductor lithography machines). Together with the project leaders, I define how to report on the progress of the projects and coordinate the creation of a test system on which the software integration tests will be executed.

MasterShip develops AutoCAD modules that streamline the manufacturing process of ships and yachts.As Project Manager I was responsible for the proper execution of software development projects. Moreover, I was responsible for software quality. I defined and implemented a software development process that added predictability and purpose to the software development projects.

As Software Quality Manager, I was responsible for improving the software development process and supporting processes for our global development team (South Africa, Canada and England). I optimized and defined each of these key processes and documented them in a robust quality manual. Furthermore, I have successfully leveraged this knowledge by training developers throughout the world and set them up with the appropriate tooling. This combination of training and tooling gave our developers the best chance for success and we saw improved results almost immediately.Also, I was responsible for prioritizing the developer activities. I have increased their throughput without giving up quality by improving the release flow process from the engineering department to manufacturing in combination with a new document control system to ensure version control and adherence to ISO standards.

As a member of the architecture team of the Blu-ray Disk Middleware project, I was responsible for assuring the testability of the software. I wrote the integration test plan and managed the software integrators. My team members and I implemented a fully automated test environment.

I have worked for LogicaCMG, a large consultancy firm, for more than 11 years. In my last three years there I was involved in software architecture and requirements analysis. I successfully completed a major course for Embedded Systems Architect at the Eindhoven Embedded Systems Institute. In a number of projects I have fulfilled the role of project- or team leader. As a software developer, I became very experienced in the development of Windows applications and embedded software.
