Bogdan Stăncescu Work Experience Details
  • Romanian Business Consult
    Software Development Manager
Romanian Business Consult Jun 2017 - Present
    Bucharest, Romania
I'm the software architect, and lead developer for some of the most ambitious and strategically important projects in RBC; I've also successfully coached and helped with the professional growth of all team members I've worked with throughout the years.Back in 2014-2015 (as a subcontractor to RBC) I successfully led the development and implementation of the mobile payment solution for the Carrefour group of companies in Romania. A couple of years later I defined the specifications and led the development of a backend solution which integrates and manages millions of omnichannel discount coupons for some of the top 5 retailers in Romania.Since 2018 I've been the product manager, software architect, and lead developer for a complex project which handles and monitors fiscal report uploads from a fleet of tens of thousands of fiscal printers to the Romanian tax authority, which is currently handling sales totaling more than 6% of Romania's GDP. Starting in 2021 I'm architect and lead dev for a cloud-based IoT solution projected to coordinate tens of thousands of devices across Europe.
  • Moongate
    Owner
    Moongate Jun 1998 - Dec 2017
    Bucharest, Romania
Enterprise software solutions, maintenance and customization -- IT & physical security, process modeling, asset management, risk management, remote access management. This was my own business, and my only source of income for a couple of decades. It started out as a partnership with one of my former teammates back in MediaPro; it was meant to become a shop for 3D production and video post-production. That fell through relatively soon, I became sole owner, and realized what turned out to be my true life-long professional dream: building software.Back in the 2000s, Moongate became the Romanian outsourcer for an Austrian software company – I was creating the architecture and developing software, hiring young programmers, training and mentoring them, developing, executing, and being responsible for project planning, and also taking care of all operations (yes, that included everything from making sure the accountant was doing her job to actually buying TP for the office). That contract offered me experiences such as working for OeNB (Autria's National Bank), building complex projects for Slovenská sporiteľňa (the largest commercial bank in Slovakia, a member of Erste Group), and training a group of anti-drug officials at the UN headquarters in Vienna on using an image database. Then the 2007 financial crisis happened. My Austrian partner defaulted, and my company had no experience in the Romanian market. I had to fire all of my employees, and I started from scratch. I was lucky enough to find contracts working for one of the top market research companies in Romania; that experience helped me refine my skills in applied statistics in software. I needed to diversify, so I started a side business: Teguna, one of the first Romanian online stores for IoT equipment; I started this roughly around the time the first Raspberry Pi was being released.
  • Mediapro
    Digital Artist
    Mediapro Jun 1995 - May 1998
    Bucharest, Romania
I was one of only eight people responsible for executing all 3D animations for both the group's TV station (Pro TV), and for various customers (mostly advertising), and we were also responsible for most of the post-production effort.I had extensive experience with 3D Studio Max and Adobe Photoshop from the family business, but they were using Silicon Graphics workstations, and an Alias|Wavefront software suite of what was then top-shelf 3D production and post-production software. I learned those, but then the technology changed again – we switched to Maya (owned by A|W at the time), and Adobe Premiere and After Effects.I had always been drawn towards software development, so I was also the most proficient programmer in this team of digital artists – I helped build the rendering scheduler for the eventual mammoth SGI Onyx rendering server, and I was solely responsible for building the company website, at a time when HTML was just transitioning from academic curiosity towards commercial interest.
  • Editura Fast
    Junior Anything Needed
    Editura Fast Jun 1990 - Jun 1995
    Bucharest, Romania
My mother owned this very small company, back in the day. These were the very early days of democracy in Romania, I was 15 at the time, and the entire country was struggling to find a way forward. My family chose to fight for their own financial stability during a time of remarkable instability, and I spent time in the family business during the most erratic part of its history (the business lived on for many years after I left).I was basically responsible for anything that could possibly fit my very limited competence at the time – from answering phones to writing code, from writing technical articles in our "Hello, CAD Fans" magazine to designing its cover art, the list of activities and responsibilities was pretty much infinite. I had the privilege of a wonderful apprenticeship within a warm family environment, a truly exploratory business environment which allowed me to enjoy various roles, combined with genuine, organic responsibility for the well-being of performing in a family business which truly reflected upon our own prosperity, day in and day out.Looking back, this certainly was my most formative professional experience: there was literally no possible way of shirking responsibility, and yet, despite my many, many blunders, I never felt bullied, humiliated, or abused – I was always held responsible in a responsible manner. In the long term, I think that helped me become both responsible for my own mistakes, and tolerant for others'.
