I am an academic veterinarian and faculty member in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Ohio State University. My clinical work focuses on canine and feline behavioral medicine. I treat behavioral disorders such as aggression, elimination problems, separation related problems, repetitive behaviors, cognitive dysfunction, anxiety, and behavioral manifestations of other disease processes. I have particular research interests in shelter animal welfare and behavior, a multi-disciplinary approach to investigating grief in animals, psychopharmacology, pain management, and end-of-life care. My teaching involves mostly clinical teaching with fourth-year veterinary students rotating through the behavior rotation elective, which I co-team lead. I also teach didactic animal behavior courses in the first and second-year curriculum (normal and abnormal behaviors). Throughout my work, I focus on educating the public on companion animal behavior to improve the human-animal bond and the general welfare of companion animals.
