Thanks to this funding, for three years I will be able to continue working in GliaLab and Letten Center (www.glialab.no) and keep on studying our recently discovered brain blood vessel movements during sleep – the dance of the sleeping arteries – which are important for removing harmful substances from our brain. If not removed in time, these substances can accumulate and increase the risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.Main Responsibilities: • 👩‍🔬 Researching arterial contractions and dilations that occur during sleep and how they are affected by high blood pressure (hypertension). • 🧠 Testing various methods (visual and audio stimulation of various frequencies) to «repair» these „broken“ movements of brain arteries in case of high blood pressure. • 🌟 Aiming to discover novel therapies to help people with high blood pressure and reduce their risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases.Project Overview: • Studying the importance of brain blood vessel movements during sleep for the removal of harmful substances. • Investigating the impact of high blood pressure on these arterial movements. • Developing and testing innovative methods to «repair» the arterial movements and improve brain waste clearance.Interested in learning more about this project or potential collaborations? In my master project I investigated the interaction between a G protein coupled receptor, beta 1-adrenergic receptor (b1AR), and a scaffold protein, postsynaptic density protein 95 (PSD-95), in mammalian cells with focus on receptor trafficking - internalization and recycling. The project involved establishment and flow cytometry characterization of monoclonal stable cell lines expressing both PSD-95 and b1AR which then were used to investigate PSD-95:b1AR interaction and to quantify receptor internalization in single cells by confocal microscopy and in ensemble assays by homogeneous time resolved fluorescence.Co-authored a paper published in ACS Photonics https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsphotonics.6b00126#
