Just under three of my five years in the Marine Corps were spent with 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment. During that time, I completed two deployments as an infantry squad leader of 13+ Marines. My primary responsibility was planning, coordinating, and leading combat patrols and missions in southern Afghanistan.

I began my Marine Corps career at 8th & I Marine Barracks where I moved up to lead a squad of 12+ Marines in conducting drill and field operations. We marched funerals in Arlington National Cemetery, participated in parades at the Iwo Jima Memorial, and welcomed foreign dignitaries to the White House. The most humbling experience of all, though, was leading our platoon Dover Team in receiving fallen Marines upon their arrival in the U.S.It was during this time that I came to truly understand and appreciate the sacrifices made for our freedom.
